Heart Disease Prevention Service – Know Your Score, Save Your Life

According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is the number one killer in Kansas, leading to 5,723 deaths. In Cowley County, there were a total of 111 deaths in 2021. SCK Health and other health-minded organizations in the county are creating new and exciting programs and testing to help decrease that number. Any life lost in Cowley is devastating.

SCK Health’s Radiology Department is now offering Cardiac CT Calcium Score! Knowing your calcium score could save your life. It is quick, convenient, and noninvasive, it is a way to evaluate the amount of calcified (hardened) plaque in your heart vessels. Which can cause heart attacks. Those with high scores are at a greater risk of heart attack, heart disease, or stroke.

Radiology Team Lead Tiffany Ripley said, “We are grateful to have the opportunity to provide a new and impactful service to our community. CT Cardiac Calcium Scoring is a great tool for patients with no cardiac symptoms.”

The American College of Cardiology found that Coronary artery calcification (CAC) is an excellent cardiovascular disease risk marker that can help your physician determine the best plan of action to prevent heart disease.

The Cardiac CT Calcium Score will take less than 20 minutes, is painless, and does not require any IV or oral contrast! The exam is typically not covered by insurance. The fee at SCK Health is $100. It does not need a physician order, but we do need to know your primary care provider to send your results.
