Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Collects blood samples by venipuncture, arterial and capillary puncture demonstrating skill with patients ranging in age from newborn to geriatric. Collects swabs, drug screens and paternity specimens.
  2. Greets customers in a courteous and professional manner. Communicates with customers by telephone to receive information, schedule out-patient testing and transfer phone calls.
  3. Coordinates with providers and clinics to ensure proper orders and specimens are received.
  4. Enters lab orders in CPSI. Aides in verifying order is complete with signature and appropriate diagnosis.  Processes specimens into this lab from outside sites.
  5. Responsible for the processing of pathology specimens for pick-up.
  6. Responsible for filing lab orders and faxing lab reports as needed.
  7. Responsible for checking lab orders and forwarding information to HIS.
  8. Responsible for stocking, cleaning, and maintaining lab supplies.
  9. May act as Lead phlebotomist/lab aide which includes keeping office procedures up to date, organizing and coordinating orders from clinics and other outside providers, overseeing phlebotomy inventory, overseeing report faxing and distribution, preparing supplies for clinics, and communicating changes related to office and ordering processes to all staff.
  10. Accepts and completes extra duties as assigned by Laboratory Team Leader.
  11. After proper training and competency checks, can do a limited amount of laboratory testing and aide in training other laboratory aide/phlebotomists.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience preferred

Working Conditions:

Job responsibilities require work constant exposure to noise, lighting, and/or temperature levels. Exposure to irritating, unpleasant, or hazardous elements or conditions (i.e. blood, chemicals, and infectious diseases) is constant.
