SCK Medical Center Surgical Department strives to combine the latest technology with personalized care for our patients. Advances in medicine are continuously shortening the recovery time for patients. Minimally invasive procedures and state of the art equipment have reduced the length of visits in the hospital to hours instead of days.

Prior to Surgery

The do’s and don’ts prior to your procedure. If you have any questions please give us a call!

DO 

  • Do Shower with HIBICLENS (Chlorhexidine) following preoperative bathing instructions and manufacturer’s guidelines on the label. Shower (not take a bath) with Hibiclens the night before surgery. THIS IS FOR EXTERNAL USE ONLY, AVOID MUCOUS MEMBRANES. 
  • Do wear comfortable, loose clothing. 
  • Do bring your driver’s license and insurance cards with you to the hospital 
  • Do bring crutches, walkers, CPAP to the hospital on the day of surgery (if applicable). 
  • Do make arrangements to have a responsible party to drive you home. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. 
  • Do bring a complete list of allergies and medications you are taking, along with dosage information.
  • Do bring a complete list of surgeries.
  • Do report any elevated temperature to our office or SCKMC prior to surgery.
  • Do notify our office or SCKMC if you have any cuts, scratches, abrasions or any kind of infection.
  • Do bring a list of telephone numbers of people you might wish us to call. 

DON’T 

  • Don’t eat OR drink anything after midnight. Do not put anything in your mouth such as gum, candy, or tobacco.Don’t wear make-up or nail polish to the hospital on the day of surgery.  
  • Don’t wear make-up or nail polish to the hospital on the day of surgery.
  • Don’t smoke.
  • Don’t wear any jewelry or watches or bring valuables to the hospital.
  • Don’t shave operative site. It is best to not shave any part of our skin except face for at least two days prior to surgery.
  • Don’t apply any type of lotions or perfumes. 

Med Surg Inpatient Care

SCK Med Surg is a 15 bed unit that provides 24 hour nurse care. All of our inpatient rooms are single rooms for your privacy and comfort. One room in the unit is equipped with bariatric equipment.

Outpatient Services 

For all outpatient services we require orders from a facility approved physician or an order that has been consigned by a facility provider. 

The Med Surg Floor is open from 6:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. There is always a nurse on staff after hours if needed.  

Many of our nurses are picc line and wound vac certified.
