SCK Health Awarded $2.37 Million Through Kansas Rural Health Transformation Program

SCK Health is proud to announce it has been awarded $2,378,188 through the Kansas Department of Health and Environment’s (KDHE) Rural Emergency Hospital Conversion/Transformative Capital Investment Program (REH/CAP), part of the statewide Kansas Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP).

The funding is part of nearly $80 million being distributed across Kansas to strengthen and sustain rural health care services, improve access to care, and support innovative health care transformation projects throughout the state. SCK Health was selected through a competitive application process focused on community need, innovation, long-term sustainability, and alignment with state and federal rural health priorities.

“These funds represent a tremendous investment in the future of rural health care in Cowley County,” said SCK Health CEO, Margaret Grismer. “As Kansas’ first Rural Emergency Hospital, SCK Health has continued to lead the way in transforming rural health care delivery, and this funding will allow us to continue building a sustainable model focused on serving our community for generations to come.”

The award will support the continued physical transformation of SCK Health’s campus following its conversion to Rural Emergency Hospital (REH) status in 2023. Planned improvements include expanded behavioral health crisis capabilities, retention and enhancement of diagnostic and surgical services, and continued transition toward expanded outpatient-focused care.

The Rural Health Transformation Program was established to strengthen access to high-quality health care across rural Kansas by investing in innovative care models, workforce development, sustainability initiatives, and advanced technologies.

“This is a huge win not only for SCK Health, but for the health and wellness of rural communities throughout Cowley County,” said Grismer, “We are grateful to KDHE and the State of Kansas for recognizing the importance of rural health care transformation and investing in the future of our region.”
