Classification: Full-time
Shift: Nights: 1830-0630
Schedule: 3 12-hour shifts, including every other weekend
Responsibilities & Duties
1. Assists in preparation of unit, patient rooms, and beds for receiving patient admissions; Assists with transfers and discharges patients.
2. Provides general nursing care, such as positioning patients, lifting and turning patients, applying special equipment, assisting with toileting and personal hygiene of patients.
3. Assisting nurse in complicated treatment procedures.
4. Takes and records temperature, pulse, respiration, oxygen saturation, weight, height, blood pressure, and intake/output measurements per shift as ordered per protocol.
5. Prepare patients for meals, serve and remove food trays, and assists with meals or feeding patients.
6. Answers patient call lights, anticipates patient’s needs, and makes rounds to assigned patients. Able to assist families by answering and relaying questions appropriately.
7. Attends in-service education programs as assigned. Attends unit meetings monthly.
Completes assigned education on time.
8. Practice careful, efficient, and non-wasteful use of supplies and linen, and follows established charge procedure for patient charge items.
9. Maintains current knowledge to perform job to quality standards; knowledge of universal precautions,, knowledge of infection control plan
10. Works cooperatively with all staff and other departments; able to enter computer orders as needed; answers telephone and relays communication effectively and in a timely manner, sets up telemetry as ordered, able to run strips as ordered.
11. Responds to emergency situations throughout the hospital as needed.
12. Completes monthly assigned tasks.
Qualifications
• Education: High School or equivalent
• License: License required in certain areas
• Certifications: Certification is required in certain areas; CPR/BLS
• Experience: 1 year preferred but not required; Must have common knowledge of parameters of normal vital signs and safety for patient care.
• Other: Must be able to work with patients of all age groups.
Working Conditions
• Works in a patient care area 100% of the time.
• Job responsibilities require frequent exposure to noise, lighting, and/or temperature levels.
• Exposure to irritating, unpleasant, or hazardous elements or conditions (i.e. blood, chemicals, and infectious diseases).
• Subject to varying and unpredictable situations, emergency/crisis situations. Subject to irregular hours (evening, night/weekend/holidays).
• Occasional pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries.
