SCK Health Recognized as Outstanding Organization in Oral Health

On Friday, November 4, 2022, SCK Health was recognized by Oral Health Kansas as an Outstanding Organization in Oral Health.

Oral Health Kansas is an organization that aims to improve oral health in Kansas through advocacy, public awareness, and education. Each year they recognize individuals and organizations who have dedicated themselves to improving oral health in Kansas.

Dr. Nick Roger, of Rogers Family Dentistry and nominator for SCK Health, said, “SCK Health was a true partner in providing services to our patients with special healthcare needs. The SCK Health OR team was always willing to go the extra mile for patients who often have very complex accommodation needs.” Dr. Rogers continued, “the team showed great love and patience with each patient and rose to meet every challenge.” 

Adults with special healthcare needs are often extremely medical complex and regular dental anesthetic or sedation is not recommended outside of a hospital setting. After COVID many hospitals had backlogs of surgeries due to the closure of the OR during the height of the pandemic. When surgeries resumed numerous hospitals pushed dental surgeries to the bottom of the list for surgery space. When SCK Health reopened its OR Department dental surgery space remained on the list as a priority especially for our special healthcare needs patients to ensure that they were receiving needed medical care. In many cases the team coordinated with several healthcare providers to address different needs at one time, decreasing patient distress and the need for multiple appointments.
