SCK Health Lab Receives 4th Zero Deficiency Survey

SCK Health is thrilled to announce that on January 15, 2025, our laboratory achieved its fourth consecutive “zero deficiency” rating from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) during a lab survey. This accomplishment indicates that our lab has maintained “substantial compliance” with all conditions outlined in the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment (CLIA) for eight consecutive years. CLIA, enacted by Congress in 1988, mandates that clinical laboratories undergo inspections and certification every two years to ensure the accuracy and reliability of patient test results.

On January 15, the inspector conducted an extensive eight-hour review, examining various elements such as staffing documentation, policies and procedures, quality control records, instrumentation records, proficiency testing, and patient result records. This thorough evaluation ensures compliance with all relevant regulations. These surveys not only assess our current practices but also provide valuable opportunities for learning and improvement. Every aspect of the laboratory undergoes diligent monitoring and evaluation, all with the ultimate goal of delivering excellent patient care.

Interim Chief Executive Officer Shannon Gray had the pleasure of attending the exit interview, stating, “When the surveyor presented her findings, she told us she was very hard to please, and rarely left a survey without finding some deficiencies. She went on to give us the biggest compliment, telling us that she would not hesitate to send her family members to SCK Health for their lab work. We are very proud of Cassie and the rest of our laboratory staff here, they work hard every day to ensure our patients are taken care of in our community.”

The SCK Health laboratory runs over 80,000 lab tests each year, ranging from CBC and Hemoglobin tests to Urinalysis and Lipid Profiles. Around 95% of tests collected at our lab are performed in-house and most results are typically available in 24 hours. With our in-house microbiology capabilities, we can significantly reduce turnaround times for culture results, allowing our team to provide swift results to healthcare providers, which in turn enhances patient care.

At SCK Health, we take great pride in our outstanding staff and their commitment to serving this community. “We could not have a zero-deficiency survey without each laboratory team member doing their part to achieve this accomplishment. It takes each person doing their part, every single day, all day long.”, SCK Health Laboratory Team Leader Cassie Crocker said, “The inspector
was very complimentary to our lab and lab staff. It is extremely difficult to obtain so many zero deficiency surveys in a row, so I am very proud of this team and their consistent, quality work.”

Patients can visit our lab for testing with a signed order and a diagnosis from their provider. Orders can be brought with you to your visit, or if it’s more convenient for you, you can also have the order faxed directly to us. Your health is our priority, and we’re here to support you every step of the way. We understand how crucial accurate results are for both providers and patients, and we deeply value the trust you place in us. We are dedicated to upholding this commitment to excellence, ensuring that you can always rely on our services with confidence and care.
